A delightful French, Napoleon III period, circa 1870, ebonised camphor wood coffer. The coffer is crafted in the Régence style with beautifully carved escargot feet. The upholstered covering is tapestry and embossed velvet. The tapestries depict a salamander the iconic emblem of the French king Francois 1st . The salamander emblem is used extensively throughout Francois 1st 's château Chambord in the Loire valley. The coffer itself emanates the regal atmosphere of a renaissance château - a charmingly decorative piece.
